“The ability to serve more patients was directly influenced by our ability to use telemedicine. We are now able to connect the school-based health centers to our health care providers using technology. Physicians and other providers, including behavioral health workers can help patients from a distance while still operating within the Myrtle Hilliard Davis system. We were introduced to telehealth by Diversity Telehealth. Dr. Shelley Cooper, founder of Kansas City-based Diversity Telehealth, conducted a needs analysis of Myrtle Hilliard Davis Comprehensive Health Center. As a result, Dr. Cooper created the telehealth infrastructure to allow MHDCHC to begin offering telemedicine services to its patients.”
“Diversity Telehealth made a huge impact! Our knowledge of telehealth and its benefits to our community made us the most likely candidate to offer services to Hazelwood and Riverview Gardens school districts. Because we contracted with Diversity Telehealth, we became familiar with telehealth guidelines and best practices. This relationship qualified and empowered us to seek additional opportunities to provide services to a broader audience, namely school-based health. We are now able to provide telehealth services to our clients at our new site and to all 5 locations. Currently, Myrtle Hilliard is the pilot organization entrusted to train students at St. Louis University students on using telehealth to care for vulnerable populations with limited resources.”
School-based health centers and telehealth services are saving more lives and improving the future of many students within the St. Louis area due to Myrtle Hilliard Davis Comprehensive Health Centers and telehealth.
